Eyam House can be traced back to the early 19th century, where it was first referenced in the 1842 edition of William Wood’s “History and Antiquities of Eyam”. It is believed that the 6th Duke of Devonshire’s Head Gamekeeper, Thomas Burgoine, constructed the home, cottage and farm buildings. Thomas’ relationship with the Duke is thought to have been close due to a portrait being commissioned of the Duke, Mr Beaumont and Thomas on a shoot at Chatsworth.
